Building Biodiversity

The Shenzhen Institute of Building Research (IBR) Headquarters Building acts as a “living laboratory” to assess the impact of biodiversity-friendly building façades on urban biodiversity. Biodiversity monitoring, initiated in November 2022, covers three areas: the surrounding mountains, the IBR building with green design features, and the adjacent urban area. The study analyzes biodiversity variation within and between these habitats, aiming to identify species that benefit from green designs and those unaffected by such measures. The research provides valuable insights into how green building strategies contribute to urban biodiversity conservation.
